Mauritius Equity Markets | 21 Oct 2015: Bearish momentum rules on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius … company caps MUR 2 million lower

PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — On Wednesday, the Stock Exchanges of Mauritius retreated to red zone after maintained positive trend from two day. The equity market capitalization closed at MUR 208.004 billion after dropping MUR 176 million (about US$5 million) compared to the previous market capitalization of MUR 208.180 billion.

The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) waned by 0.08 percent or 1.58 points to close at 1,867.83 and SEM10 index dipped by 0.04 percent or 0.15 points to close at 357.44 points.

In respect of the market activity, the overall total volume trade ended at 2,744,005 (a rise relative to volume of 959,183 recorded at the previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 35.334 million (an increase relative to MUR 11.933 million recorded at the previous trading session).

The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 1,724,700 (about 63 percent of total volume) at MUR 1.380 million and Rogers & Co Limited registered 316,168 traded stocks amounted to MUR 8.632 million. CIEL Limited had 294,835 at MUR 1.99 million and Mauritius Development Investment Trust  recorded a total volume of 66,000 shares at MUR 329,370. TERRA Limited also recorded 55,211 shares at MUR 1.508 million.

From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, among the 29 traded securities there were 7 price gainers and 7 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended neutral. Air Mauritius Limited soared by 2.88 percent to end at MUR 10.70, Rogers & Co Limited surged by 0.55 percent to end at MUR 27.35 and OMNICANE Limited grew by 0.37 percent to trade at MUR 67.50. TERRA Limited traded at MUR 28.10 by adding 0.36 percent and ALTEO Limited edged up by 0.29 percent to close at MUR 34.10.

Conversely, LOTTOTECH Limited plunged by 9.09 percent to settle at MUR 3.00, CAUDAN Limited sagged by 3.12 percent to end at MUR 1.24 and National Investment Trust Mauritius dipped by 2.20 percent to end at MUR 40.10. New Mauritius Hotels ended at MUR 17.80 after dropping 1.11 percent and Vivo Energy Limited closed at MUR 113.00 after losing 0.88 percent.

The DEMEX index closed at 200.41 points after dipped by 0.42 points or 0.21 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.277 billion after dropping MUR 103  million (relative to MUR 49.380 billion recorded at the previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.642 million exchanged in 138,334 traded securities. SODIA Limited added 1.72 percent to trade at MUR 0.59 but MFD Group Limited declined by 3.27 to end at MUR 10.35 and MEDINE Limited waned by 0.79 percent to end at MUR 62.50.
